The Montana Water Resources Survey is a comprehensive county by county assessment of Montana’s historical water use. This data was collected and published from thru by the State Engineers Office and from thru by the Water Conservation Board.

Many USGS reports on water resources are now being served online. Most publications located at this site and other USGS sites can be located by subject, author, date, USGS series or publication series number by using the reports and thematic maps electronic Publications Warehouse.

The Publications Warehouse will eventually be taking the place of this page. A series of chapters on techniques describes methods used by the U.S. Geological Survey for planning and conducting water-resources investigations. The material is arranged under major subject headings called books and is further subdivided into sections and chapters.

Book 5 is on laboratory analyses; section A is on water. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the California State Water Resources Control Board, is evaluating several questions about oil and gas development and groundwater resources in California, including (1) the location of groundwater resources; (2) the proximity of oil and gas operations and groundwater and the geologic.
